Glastonbury Live - Festival Webcam

Pyramid Stage at Worthy Farm, home of the Glastonbury Music Festival

The Glastonbury Festival 2010 will take place between 23 and 27 June 2010. Tickets went on sale on 4 October 2009, with the £50 deposit scheme introduced at the previous festival being continued. Unlike the previous two years and more in common with earlier festivals, the tickets for the 2010 Glastonbury had sold out in less than 24 hours from being released for sale. U2 will no longer headline the Pyramid Stage on Friday night at Glastonbury 2010, due to Bono sustaining a back injury early May 2010. According to the media, Bono was "gutted", even having written a song especially for the festival. Muse and Stevie Wonder will play the other two headline slots, with Muse playing on Saturday and Wonder on Sunday. The following day the replacement to U2 was confirmed as Gorillaz. It would be Damon Albarn's second headlining act in 2 years.

My World Webcams - Guest Blogger!

We were very pleased to be asked to provide a guest blog post for the popular travel blog Cheapoair, and wrote the following feature:

Thailand – Sand, Sea and Mai Tai’s Galore!

A holiday in Thailand is a holiday like no other, exotic, exciting and, in the grand scheme of things, incredibly cheap. I’ve spent many a happy holiday there, and still check out the live views on the beach webcams every day.

If you’re thinking of heading to Thailand, I can highly recommend Phuket as a location to base yourself. Staying in Karon Beach is a perfect base for venturing out, exploring and making the most of your time there.

In the mornings you can jump in a tuk tuk to Kata Bay to sunbathe on one of the most beautiful beaches you will ever see and partake in some of the many water sports available. I’ve spent many a leisurely day just soaking up the sun and swimming in the Andaman Sea, then taking in some shade whilst feasting on iced sticks of pineapple sold by the lovely Thai lady who wonders down the beach selling her wares.

In the evenings you can head into Patong which is only a short ride from Karon and has a lively environment with a multitude of bars, restaurants and night clubs.

Make the most of the excursions available as well, there are too many to choose from, but here are some that I have been on myself:

- A speed boat ride out to Coral Island, where we went snorkeling – brave of me as I’m terrified of the water but it’s something you just can’t miss out on!

- A boat trip out to Phang Nga – You get to visit James Bond Island and Koh Panyee (the floating village) where we stopped for lunch which was delicious.

- A weekend stopover in Kho Phi Phi where we took a long tail boat out for some more snorkeling and had a picnic on a deserted island.

- A night out at Simon cabaret – an excellent show and I still can’t believe that they weren’t women!

- A night out watching an authentic Thai Boxing match

- Elephant trekking – another amazing experience!

Another thing not to miss is a sunset at Prom Thep cape (about 15 minutes drive from Karon). It is really most dramatic and something you’ll remember for a very long time.

Don’t forget there is also Phuket town to see and enjoy some serious shopping (favourite pastime!) Although the clothes sizing can make one feel a bit on the big side as the Thai women are a lot smaller than a robust Scottish lass!

The Thai people are incredibly friendly and it’s easy to get embroiled in a competitive game of Jenga whilst indulging in some very strong Mai Tai cocktails – I think it’s their game plan!

An experience to remember.

Stonehenge Live Webcam View

Stonehenge Prehistoric Monument, near Salisbury, Wiltshire

Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument located in the English county of Wiltshire, north of Salisbury. One of the most famous sites in the world, Stonehenge is composed of earthworks surrounding a circular setting of large standing stones. It is at the centre of the most dense complex of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments in England, including several hundred burial mounds.

Archaeologists had believed that the iconic stone monument was erected around 2500 BC, as described in the chronology below. One recent theory, however, has suggested that the first stones were not erected until 2400-2200 BC, whilst another suggests that bluestones may have been erected at the site as early as 3000 BC The surrounding circular earth bank and ditch, which constitute the earliest phase of the monument, have been dated to about 3100 BC. The site and its surroundings were added to the UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites in 1986 in a co-listing with Avebury Henge monument. It is a national legally protected Scheduled Ancient Monument. Stonehenge is owned by the Crown and managed by English Heritage, while the surrounding land is owned by the National Trust.

Monastery of El Escorial Webcam

View of the Monastery of El Escorial

The basilica of San Lorenzo el Real, the central building in the El Escorial complex, was originally designed, like most of the late Gothic cathedrals of western Europe, to take the form of a Latin cross. As such, it has a long nave on the west-east axis intersected by a pair of shorter transepts, one to the north and one directly opposite, to the south, about three-quarters of the way between the west entrance and the high altar. This plan was modified by Juan de Herrera to that of a Greek cross, a form with all four arms of equal length. Coincident with this shift in approach, the bell towers at the western end of the church were somewhat reduced in size and the small half-dome intended to stand over the altar was replaced with a full circular dome over the center of the church, where the four arms of the Greek cross meet.

Background info: The Deepwater Horizon oil spill (also referred to as the BP oil spill, the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, the BP oil disaster or the Macondo blowout) is a massive ongoing oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, now considered the largest offshore spill in U.S. history Some estimates placed it by late May or early June, 2010, as among the largest oil spills in the world with tens of millions of gallons spilled to date. Johannesburg Webcam, Soccer City World Cup 2010 Stadium Web

Johannesburg city skyline, Soccer City World Cup stadium

Soccer City, formerly known as the FNB Stadium, is a stadium located in the Soweto area of Johannesburg, South Africa. It is located next to the South African Football Association headquarters (SAFA House) where both the FIFA offices and the Local Organising Committee for the 2010 FIFA World Cup are housed.

A football-specific stadium, Soccer City is currently the largest stadium in Africa with a capacity of 94,700. Most of the largest football events in South Africa are played at Soccer City and the venue is better suited to these events than the Ellis Park Stadium, where the final for the Rugby World Cup in 1995 was held. Soweto and the National Exhibition Centre in Nasrec are nearby.

It was the site of Nelson Mandela's first speech in Johannesburg after his release from prison. It was also the site of Chris Hani's funeral.
