Reading Festival Live Stream, The Strokes, Interpol, Elbow Online

The Reading Festival, the original and senior leg of the two simultaneous weekend music festivals at Reading and Leeds, is the world's oldest popular music festival still in existence.

Event Information:

The Reading Festival originates from the National Jazz Festival, which was conceived by Harold Pendleton (founder of the Marquee Club in London) and was first held at Richmond Athletic Ground in 1961. This festival, in turn, took inspiration from events held in America. Throughout its first decade the festival changed names and moved around sites several times, being held at Windsor Racecourse, Kempton Park and Plumpton, before reaching its permanent home at Reading in 1971.

After a successful first year in Leeds, a continued resurgence in the popularity of outdoor music festivals led to the Reading festival selling out more and more quickly every year. The Leeds leg, however, was plagued by riots and violence which led to problems in retaining its licence. The worst of these was in 2002, after which Mean Fiddler moved the festival to Bramham Park, near Bramham north-east of Leeds in 2003. Since then, security at both sites has increased and problems have been reduced. In 2005, the Festival spawned the Reading Fringe Festival in the town. Much like the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, this sees venues in the town hosting fringe acts hoping to draw crowds and industry figures from the larger festival. The Reading Fringe has run annually since then.

Leeds Festival Live Stream, Elbow, My Chemical Romance, The Strokes Online

The Leeds Festival takes place in Leeds in England. The event takes place on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the August bank holiday weekend, sharing the same bill as the Reading festival.

Event Information:

The Leeds event is held in Bramham Park, near Wetherby, the grounds of an historic house. Campsites are available at both sites and weekend tickets include camping. Day tickets are also sold. Pulp will headline over The Strokes at Leeds. Mouthwash pulled out due to the split up of the band, they were replaced by Fighting Fiction. The Twilight Singers pulled out for unforeseen personal scheduling conflicts, they have since been replaced by Young Legionnaire.

The festivals are run by Festival Republic, which was divested from Mean Fiddler Music Group. For promotional purposes during 1998-2007 they were known as the Carling Weekend: Reading and the Carling Weekend: Leeds. Unsurprisingly, these titles were seldom used when not required, although NME did so as part of its involvement. In November 2007, the organisers welcomed "Reading Festival reclaiming its prestigious name" when the sponsored title was abolished after 9 years. In 2011, the capacity of the Reading site was 87,000 and the Leeds site was 75,000. This was an increase of several thousand on previous years.

The initial line-up announcement was made on Monday 21 March 2011, after tickets went on sale. My Chemical Romance, Pulp, The Strokes and Muse were confirmed as headliners at the three-day festival. Pulp will play before The Strokes at Reading and will top the bill themselves in Leeds.

Event Information:

The week-long festival has grown from a relatively low-profile 1993 student event to become one of the definitive European rock festivals by the late 1990s, with about half of all visitors coming from outside Hungary, including the UK and France. It also has a dedicated "party train" service (with resident DJ's) that transports festivalgoers from Western Europe. The second event (1994), labeled Eurowoodstock, was headlined by performers from the original festival 25 years after. In 1997, Sziget attendancy rates surpassed the 250 000 mark, and in 2001, the 350 000 mark. The all-time peak year was 2009 with 390 000 visitors. It is now being increasingly labeled as a European alternative to the Burning Man festival due to its unique features. In 2011, Sziget was ranked one of the 5 best festivals in Europe by The Independent, and one of the 10 best by the European Festival Awards.

In 2002, Sziget branched out to Transylvania when its organizers co-created a new annual festival there titled Félsziget Fesztivál (Romanian: Festivalul Peninsula) that soon became one of the largest of its kind in Romania.[6] In 2007, the organizers created Balaton Sound, an electronic music festival that quickly gained popularity.

Mainstage lineup:
Prince, 30 Seconds to Mars, The Prodigy, Kaiser Chiefs, Flogging Molly, Kate Nash, Skunk Anansie, Pulp, Gogol Bordello, La Roux, Dizzee Rascal, Smash Mouth, Rise Against, Interpol, The National, Chemical Brothers, Hadouken! en Good Charlotte.
