Event Information:

A historical water pageant commemorates the welcome given to Caterina Cornaro, wife of the King of Cyprus, in 1489, after she renounced her throne in favour of Venice. Scores of typically 16th century-style boats with gondoliers in period costume carry the Doge, his wife and all the highest ranking Venetian officials up the Grand Canal in a brightly coloured parade, with the famous Bucintoro, the boat representing the Serenissima, at its head.

Then, many different races take place: the champions regatta in "gondolini", the regatta in "caorline", the women's regatta in "mascarete", the young rowers' regatta in "pupparini". The spectators participate with gusto and shouts of encouragement.

Water is the element that most characterises Venice and it is no coincidence that the most famous and spectacular festivity in the city takes place on the waters of the Grand Canal. The spectacular event starts with a magnificent historical procession consisting of splendid, elaborately carved boats complete with hundreds od figures in gorgeous brocade costume.

Victory Day Malta 2010 - Live Regatta Webcam

This national holiday commemorates the victory of the Knights Hospitaller over the Ottoman Turks in the Great Siege of 1565, as well as the surrender of Italy in 1943, turning against its former Nazi German ally during World War II thus ending the Second Siege of Malta.

There are parades, military bands and of course the traditional regatta featuring boat races in the Grand Harbour, a tradition first started in 1642 which then became an annual event in 1878.

This live web cam feed shows the Grand Harbour where the boat races are held.

Cowes Week 2010 Regatta - Festival ends with Fireworks

It is traditional to end the annual Cowes Week Regatta with an enormous party, and this year will be no exception. The famous festival comes to a close this evening with a party at the marina, highlighted with a spectacular fireworks display.

Webcam views at the marina make it possible to watch the events live from the comfort of your own home:

Location Information:

Cowes Week is the longest-running regular regatta in the world. Having started in 1826, the Event is held on the Solent (the area of water between southern England and the Isle of Wight made tricky by strong double tides), and is run by Cowes Week Limited in the small town of Cowes on the Isle of Wight.

Cowes Week is held at the beginning of August, set after Glorious Goodwood in the social calendar, which in most years means, from the first Saturday after the last Tuesday in July, until the following Saturday. It is occasionally moved to another week if the state of the tides in the normal week is unfavourable, as happened in 2004. The regatta is famous for its fireworks on the final Friday, launched from barges in the Solent.
