Queens Club Championships 2011 Live Stream Online Tennis Tournament

The Queen's Club Championships is taking place this week. It is an annual tournament for male tennis players, held on grass courts at the Queen's Club in West Kensington, London. Between 1970 and 1989 it was part of the Grand Prix tennis circuit.

The tournament is being covered online by the BBC, and you can watch online here:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbctwo/watchlive/

Event Information:

Its sponsored name is currently the AEGON Championships. The tournament was known as the Stella Artois Championships from 1979 until 2008, and the London Grass Court Championships for most of the decades before that.

The Queen's Club Championships is held every year in June in the week after the French Open. Grass courts are the least common playing surface for top-level events on the ATP Tour (excluding Challenger Series events). The 2009 schedule includes only four grass court tournaments in the run-up to Wimbledon. Alongside Queen's, there are the Gerry Weber Open, the AEGON International, and the UNICEF Open. An additional tournament is played on grass in Newport, Rhode Island, USA, in the week immediately after Wimbledon.

Outside Wimbledon, this is the grass-court tournament with the largest draw size and it has a reputation for helping to produce Wimbledon champions. In addition, it enjoys full coverage on BBC TV in the UK, and was shown in High Definition for the first time in 2009. Andy Roddick and Lleyton Hewitt have dominated the tournament in recent times, each winning four titles. Four titles is the most anyone has won at Queens with famous names such as Emerson and Connors added to Hewitt and Roddick. Andy Roddick has called the courts at the Queen's Club "arguably the best in the world". The current champion is Sam Querrey

Shavuot 2011 Live Jewish Festival in Jerusalem, Israel

Shavuot is a Jewish holiday that occurs on the sixth day of the Hebrew month of Sivan. Shavuot commemorates the anniversary of the day God gave the Torah to the entire Israelite nation assembled at Mount Sinai.

Location Information:

The Western Wall sometimes referred to as the Wailing Wall or simply the Kotel and as al-Buraaq Wall in Arabic, is an important Jewish religious site located in the Old City of Jerusalem. Just over half the wall, including its 17 courses located below street level, dates from the end of the Second Temple period, being constructed around 19 BCE by Herod the Great. The remaining layers were added from the 7th century onwards.

The date of Shavuot is directly linked to that of Passover. The Torah mandates the seven-week Counting of the Omer, beginning on the second day of Passover and immediately followed by Shavuot. This counting of days and weeks is understood to express anticipation and desire for the Giving of the Torah. On Passover, the Jewish people were freed from their enslavement to Pharaoh; on Shavuot they were given the Torah and became a nation committed to serving God.

China Floods Rise as Torrential Rain Forces Evacuations

Heavy rainfall in China is continuing to affect regions near the southern end of the Yangtze River. Sustained heavy falls have already swamped large areas of the provinces of Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi and Guizhou. These provinces have previously been hit by drought in recent months.

This live video shows the extent of the current flooding in the region:

Location Information:

The Yangtze is the longest river in Asia, and the third-longest in the world. It flows for 6,418 kilometres (3,988 mi) from the glaciers on the Tibetan Plateau in Qinghai eastward across southwest, central and eastern China before emptying into the East China Sea at Shanghai. It is also one of the biggest rivers by discharge volume in the world. The Yangtze drains one-fifth of China's land area and its river basin is home to one-third of China's population. Along with the Yellow River, the Yangtze is the most important river in the history, culture and economy of China. The prosperous Yangtze River Delta generates as much as 20% of China's GDP. The river is an important physical and cultural dividing line between North and South China. Chinese living north of the Yangtze speak varying dialects of Mandarin. Most of the provinces south of the river have native Sinitic languages that are unintelligible to Mandarin-speakers.

The Yangtze River flows through a wide array of ecosystems and is itself habitat to several endemic and endangered species including the Yangtze River dolphin (now extinct), Chinese alligator, and the Yangtze sturgeon. For thousands of years, man has used the river for water, irrigation, sanitation, transportation, industry, boundary-marking and war. The Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze River is the largest hydro-electric power station in the world. In recent years, the river has suffered from industrial pollution, agricultural run-off, siltation, and loss of wetland and lakes, which exacerbates seasonal flooding. Some sections of the river are now protected as nature reserves. A stretch of the Yangtze flowing through deep gorges in western Yunnan is part of the Three Parallel Rivers of Yunnan Protected Areas, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Arizona Wildfire Continues to Spread, AZ Fire Cam Stream

The large Arizona wildfire is continuing to grow today, with local firefighters contending with strong, dry winds, meaning they remain unable to properly contain the blaze.

The Wallow fire is already the third-largest in the state's history, having consumed 301 square miles. This live video footage shows the fire and attempts to fight it:

Over 2,000 firefighters from across the country have joined the fight, with residents evacuating towns in the fire's path. Arizona Governor Jan Brewer has described the fire as "horrific".

The fire, which started on 29 May, is threatening mountain communities in the east of the state. Smoke from the burning pine forests can be seen in the neighbouring states of New Mexico and Colorado.

Most residents of the resort town of Greer, in the White Mountains, left on Saturday, packing their belongings in to vehicles as the Wallow Fire moved closer. A blaze in 2002 burnt through 732 sq miles in the centre of the state and another in 2005 that scorched 387 sq miles near Phoenix.

D-Day 67th Anniversary 2011, Live in Normandy

6th June is the anniversary of the World War 2 D-Day Landings in Normandy, and as always there will be veterans and their families marking the occasion.

This live webcam is on the Normandy beach at Dunkirk:

The Normandy landings, also known as Operation Neptune were the landing operations of the Allied invasion of Normandy, in Operation Overlord, during World War II. The landings commenced on Tuesday, 6 June 1944 (D-Day), beginning at 6:30 AM British Double Summer Time (GMT+2). In planning, D-Day was the term used for the day of actual landing, which was dependent on final approval.

The assault was conducted in two phases: an airborne assault landing of 24,000 British, American, Canadian and Free French airborne troops shortly after midnight, and an amphibious landing of Allied infantry and armoured divisions on the coast of France commencing at 6:30 AM. There were also decoy operations mounted under the codenames Operation Glimmer and Operation Taxable to distract the German forces from the real landing areas.

The operation was the largest amphibious invasion in world history, with over 160,000 troops landing on 6 June 1944. 195,700 Allied naval and merchant navy personnel in over 5,000 ships were involved. The invasion required the transport of soldiers and material from the United Kingdom by troop-laden aircraft and ships, the assault landings, air support, naval interdiction of the English Channel and naval fire-support. The landings took place along a 50-mile (80 km) stretch of the Normandy coast divided into five sectors: Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword.

Loch Ness Webcam - The Search for Nessie Live!

Loch Ness is famed around the world for the legendary prehistoric monster lurking in it's deep, dark waters. The legend of Nessie has become known globally, and monster hunters still visit all year round.

This live webcam feed is watching the waters of Loch Ness:

Location Information:

Loch Ness is a large, deep, freshwater loch in the Scottish Highlands (57°18′N 4°27′W) extending for approximately 37 km (23 mi) southwest of Inverness. Its surface is 15.8 m (52 ft) above sea level. Loch Ness is best known for the alleged sightings of the legendary Loch Ness Monster, also known as "Nessie". Loch Ness is over twenty miles long and hundreds of feet deep in places. The loch is notorious for its murkyness, as the water is filled with slime, peat, and mud. The loch's murkyness and depth may be one of the reasons why the Loch Ness monster's existance has not yet been proven. Some people think caverns under the loch connect to the ocean.

It is connected at the southern end by the River Oich and a section of the Caledonian Canal to Loch Oich. At the northern end there is the Bona Narrows which opens out into Loch Dochfour, which feeds the River Ness and a further section of canal to Inverness. It is one of a series of interconnected, murky bodies of water in Scotland; its water visibility is exceptionally low due to a high peat content in the surrounding soil.

Loch Ness is the second largest Scottish loch by surface area at 56.4 km2 (21.8 sq mi) after Loch Lomond, but due to its great depth it is the largest by volume. Its deepest point is 230 m (755 ft), deeper than the height of London's BT Tower at 189 m (620 ft) and deeper than any other loch with the exception of Loch Morar. It contains more fresh water than all lakes in England and Wales combined, and is the largest body of water on the Great Glen Fault, which runs from Inverness in the north to Fort William in the south.

Location Information:

The Kodak Theatre is a live theatre in the Hollywood and Highland retail, dining, and entertainment complex on Hollywood Boulevard and North Highland Avenue in the Hollywood district of Los Angeles. Since its opening on November 9, 2001, the theatre has been the home of the annual Academy Awards Ceremonies (The Oscars), which were first held there in March 2002, and is the first permanent home for the awards. Since 2002, the theater was also the home for American Idol.

The theatre was designed by David Rockwell of the Rockwell Group, and Theatre Projects Consultants specifically with the Oscars in mind. It has a seating capacity for up to 3,401 people. The stage is one of the largest in the United States, roughly tied with the Elliot Hall of Music at Purdue University, measuring 113 feet (34 m) wide by 60 feet (18 m) deep. The theatre was sponsored by the Eastman Kodak company, which paid $75 million to have its name associated with the building. It is owned by CIM Group.

The theatre is particularly successful as a venue for a televised theatre performance (improving production values and economies in American Idol and the Academy Awards) through the planning and technical design. The architect and advisers undertook extensive consultation with many of the leading production personnel in Hollywood which led to highly functional production cable infrastructure systems including an underground cable bunker which passes below the theatre to truck locations in adjacent streets, accessible and substantial power, and a unique camera, sound and stage management cockpit designed by Rockwell in the orchestra seating area.

An estimated crowd of up to 250,000 protestors are continuing to rally in central Athens with Syntagma Square as the focal point of the protests against politicians, bankers and tax dodgers, as the government prepares to inflict another round of austerity demanded by its international lenders.

This live feed is watching Syntagma Square:

Syntagma Square is also the frequent site of political demonstrations. The Greek Parliament is immediately across Amalias Avenue to the east, and surrounded by the extensive National Gardens, which are open to the public. Every hour, the changing of the guard ceremony, performed by the Presidential Guard, is conducted in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on the area between the square and parliament. On Sundays and official holidays, the ceremonial changing of the guard takes place with an army band and the majority of the 120 Evzones present at 11am.

Puyehue Cordón Caulle Volcano Erupts, Chile Volcanic Eruption Cam Stream

A chain of volcanoes, Puyehue-Cordon-Caulle range has erupted in southern Chile, forcing the evacuation of thousands of residents. Large columns of smoke have been rising from the volcano, about 800km (500 miles) south of the capital Santiago.

This live video footage has been captured of the eruption:

Volcano Information:

Puyehue and Cordón Caulle are two coalesced volcanic vents that form a major mountain massif in Puyehue National Park in the Andes of Ranco Province, Chile. In volcanology this group is known as the Puyehue-Cordón Caulle Volcanic Complex (PCCVC). Four different volcanoes constitute the volcanic group or complex, the Cordillera Nevada caldera, the Pliocene Mencheca volcano, Cordón Caulle fissure vents and the Puyehue stratovolcano. As with most stratovolcanoes on the Southern Volcanic Zone of the Andes, Puyehue and Cordón Caulle are located along the intersection of a traverse fault with the larger north-south Liquiñe-Ofqui Fault. The volcanic complex has shaped the local landscape and produced a huge variety of volcanic landforms and products over the last 300,000 years. Cinder cones, lava domes, calderas and craters can be found in the area apart from the widest variety of volcanic rocks in all the Southern Volcanic Zone, for example both primitive basalts and rhyolites. Cordón Caulle is notable for having erupted following the 1960 Valdivia earthquake, the largest recorded earthquake in history. Apart from this, the Puyehue-Cordón Caulle area is one of the main sites of exploration for geothermal power in Chile. Geothermal activity is manifested on the surface of Puyehue and Cordón Caulle as several boiling springs, solfataras and fumaroles.

Recent activity at the volcano has resulted in alert level 4 (out of 4) being issued on June 3rd, 2011. A new eruption started as of June 3rd 16:30 EDT. As of 4 June, the ash cloud reached a height of 10,000 meters.

Universal CityWalk Stream at 2011 MTV Movie Awards, LA

The Twilight Saga Eclipse leads the nominations at tonight's MTV Movie Awards as the Gibson Amphitheatre on Universal City Walk in Los Angeles with eight followed by Inception with seven included Best Movie.

This live streaming feed is in Universal City for the MTV Music Awards:

The MTV Movie Awards is a film awards show presented annually on MTV (formerly initialized as Music Television). It also contains movie parodies that used official movie footage with hosts and other celebrities and music performances. The nominees are decided by producers and executives at MTV. Winners are decided online by the general public. Presently voting is done through MTV's official website through a special Movie Awards link at movieawards.mtv.com.

MTV has awarded at least three fictional characters their version of the Academy Honorary Award: Godzilla, Jason Voorhees, and Chewbacca. Jason was awarded the honor in 1992. Godzilla was awarded it in 1996, and Chewbacca the following year. (Carrie Fisher presented him with a medal identical to that which Han Solo and Luke Skywalker were given by Princess Leia, who was portrayed by Fisher, at the ceremony at the end of Star Wars since it was a long running complaint that Chewbacca never received one in the movie). The category existed as a spoof award through 1997, where other recipients included Jackie Chan and Richard Roundtree. In 1998, Clint Howard was the last person given the award. The award was retired in 1998, but reemerged seven years later as the MTV Generation Award; Tom Cruise in 2005, Jim Carrey in 2006, Mike Myers in 2007, Adam Sandler in 2008, Ben Stiller in 2009, Sandra Bullock in 2010, and Reese Witherspoon in 2011.
