Location Information:

Las Vegas, which bills itself as The Entertainment Capital of the World, is famous for the number of resorts and associated entertainment. A growing retirement and family city, it is the 28th most populous city in the United States with an estimated population by the U.S. Census Bureau of 567,641 as of 2009. The 2009 population estimate of the Las Vegas metropolitan area was 1,902,834.

Established in 1905, Las Vegas officially became a city in 1911. With the growth that followed, at the close of the century Las Vegas was the most populous American city founded in the 20th century (a distinction held by Chicago in the 19th century). The city's tolerance for various forms of adult entertainment earned it the title of Sin City, and this image has made Las Vegas a popular setting for films and television programs. There are numerous outdoor lighting displays on Fremont Street, as well as elsewhere in the city.

Event Information:

The marathon was organized by Al Boka since 1983, who sold the marathon in 2005 to Devine Racing, a Chicago-based race organization company that is responsible for several other races, including the Los Angeles Marathon. Zappos.com will be the title sponsor for this event through 2009.

Devine redubbed the race as "The Zappos.com Las Vegas Marathon", and updated the course to include the Strip. Introduced on December 4 2005, the new course marks one of the rare occasions that the Strip is closed to traffic. Prior to that, the course had run on the old Los Angeles Highway, beginning in the community of Jean, Nevada, and ending outside of the City of Las Vegas in the county's Sunset Park.

Additionally in 2005, the date of the marathon was changed from January to December to help ensure better weather.

Las Vegas Live for Justin Timberlake Golf Open 2010

The Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open is a golf tournament in the Fall Series of the PGA Tour. It is played annually in October in Las Vegas, Nevada. The tournament is held at the TPC at Summerlin and from 2008 will be hosted by recording star Justin Timberlake.

This live feed will be covering the event live:

The event has been known by other titles, which are shown in the Winners section below. In 2009, the purse will be $4,200,000, with a $756,000 first prize. In 2002, under a previous sponsor, the purse was $5,000,000 ($900,000 to champion), and has never been as high since. The tournament was founded in 1983. Until 2003, this tournament was played over five rounds over several other courses. Tiger Woods recorded his first PGA Tour win here in 1996.

The tournament announced that the Shriners Hospitals for Children would take over the operations of the tournament, and that the Las Vegas Founders, a volunteer group, would no longer be involved with the event. Fry's Electronics, chief presenting sponsor in 2006 and 2007, also ended their association with this event, choosing to concentrate on a second tournament in Arizona that it was already sponsoring. On November 12, 2007, the PGA Tour announced that Timberlake would become host of the tournament, and also announced the event's new name. Timberlake, an avid golfer who plays to a 6 handicap, will play in the celebrity pro-am and host a benefit concert during the week of the tournament.

This event became the first PGA Tour event in history to offer a total prize purse of more than $1 million. A tradition at the tournament is presenting the trophy to the champion while two showgirls are a part of the pomp and circumstance.

The Strip in Las Vegas is one of the busiest and most well known party locations in the world. Several decades ago, Las Vegas Boulevard South was called Arrowhead Highway, or Los Angeles Highway. The Strip was reportedly named by Los Angeles police officer Guy McAfee, after his hometown's Sunset Strip.

One of the most visible aspects of Las Vegas' cityscape is its use of dramatic architecture. The modernization of hotels, restaurants, and residential high-rises on the Strip has established the city as one of the most popular destinations for tourists
